What are Physiological Reactions?
Physiological reaction is an automatic instinctive unlearned reaction to a stimulus. It is a bodily process that occurs from the effect of foregoing stimulus or agent. Accommodation reflex is a kind of change in the eyes which focuses an object to the retina. Micturition reflex is a response to the increased pressure in bladder that results in relaxation of urethral sphincter. These are some of the physiological reactions.

Gag reflex is one of the physiological reactions that results in a reflex with retching that is produced when the soft palate at the back of the mouth is touched. Goose bump or goose flesh is the erection of hairs in skin that is produced when there is a cold or emotional stress or irritation on skin. Plantar reflex, a kind of physiological reaction, is the flexion of toes that is caused in persons above 2years when foot sole strikes firmly on the outer side from the heel.

A physiological reaction also involves sudden involuntary movement like start, jump etc. When this plantar reflex is caused for the persons less than two years, it results in extension of toes which is called as Babinski reflex. A myotactic or stretch reflex is contraction of muscle caused when the attached tendon is being pulled. A rooting reflex consists of turning of head and sucking movements and elicited by stroking the side of mouth or cheek in a gentle manner which includes in the physiological reactions.

A suckling reflex is a physiological reaction that reflects behavior found in newborn mammals that includes the grasping the nipple in the mouth, sucking and swallowing the milk. A reflex motion like shake or shiver is a one caused due to cold, fear or excitement. A sneeze or sternutation is also a physiological reaction which is a symptom of involuntary expulsion of air from the nose.

A mydriasis is a physiological reaction, a papillary dilation caused when there is a decrease in light or certain drugs. This pulls the iris outward. Light reflex or myosis is called as pupillary reflex which results in the contraction of sphincter muscle of iris due to bright light that makes the pupil smaller. An extension of the leg that results in a sharp tap on the patellar tendon is called knee jerk or patellar reflex which is one of the physiological reactions.

A babinski reflex is the extension upward of the toes due to firm stroke on outer side of the heel under the age of two years. A physiological reaction called belching or eructation is a reflex that produces a wind noise from the stomach thro' the mouth. Nictation or winking is a reflex that causes the eyes to close and open rapidly. A physiological reaction, sudden reddening of the face is called as blush or flush that is caused due to shame or modesty or an embarrassing situation.

Puking or regurgitation is a physiological reaction that results in the ejection of contents from the stomach thro' the mouth. Defacation or rectal reflex is the response to the presence of feces in rectum. An involuntary intake of breadth by opening the mouth widely is called yawning or oscitance is also a physiological reaction.
